Turtle Soup: Professional Poise

singing and dancing secretary

Have I mentioned that I have a low-level administrative position at a prestigious university? Heh. I like my job fine--I have the best of bosses--but I can't say I feel suited to the atmosphere. Little things like singing in the elevator help me keep my perspective. ;)

Er, I should note that the ringing cleavage thing has never happened at work.

Something other than a four-panel configuration next time, I think. Have to break it up a little.

Turtle Soup: Ah, Spring

More (belated) March wackiness:

March's lamb has gone missing

Of course, to cover the full gamut of New England Spring this year, I'd also have had to portray torrential downpour/record-breaking flooding, followed by faux-summer and very confused plants ... but what the hell, I was out of more interesting scripts and I just wanted to draw hair blowing around.

Note to self, for next time: if I'm too busy to script more comics, I am probably also too busy to hatch like that (in a timely fashion, anyway).

Also, last week I made my dad a birthday card based on one of my family's very random favorite films, The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother. (This is the third time I've made him something based on that movie - see this father's day card from four or five years ago. We really love that movie.) A couple of iffy photos under the cut (I didn't have time to scan): Never mind. I'll explain it to you later. )

Turtle Soup: Paradigm Shift

Finally. March has been a wacky month.

no longer a living stereotype?

Whoops, that's two comics ending in dramatic head-clutching. I'll have to space this one out from the Spock strip in the mini, clearly. ;)

I tried to tone down the busy hatchwork/details in this one, leave in some more white spaces, etc . . . not sure what I think yet, but I'll keep messing with it until I find the right balance.

Turtle Soup: A Mighty Princess (part 1)

Finally, a new strip - my "little" brother's comic debut!

but can he yodel?

This happened some years back (when I was still in college, and he in high school - he's graduating college this year, it's terrifying). Our weird day did not end there, but the second part is going to have to wait until I find better reference images.

I am concerned about the second & third panels on this. :/ Portraying motion is difficult! Input would not go amiss, if you(?) have any.

Turtle Soup: Fangirl, The Next Generation

where many women have gone before

And that's all she drew - for now, anyway. Hopefully I'll have the next new strip done sometime this week/end! (I need to pick up the pace - honeybee infestations and admissions season at work have really slowed me down this month.)

Oh, I also recently did this random art meme I picked up from deviantART: do the time warp )

you're always tellin' me it's too far

I love my (new) journaling service.

Someone with a grudge keeps reporting Dreamwidth to their online payment processors. They are unable to use Paypal and now Google Checkout because they refuse to alter their TOS to fit those services' demands. (Google is actually insisting that they should ban all adult content.)

I must remember to write up a check for a paid account this week. I love Dreamwidth's principles, and I'm grateful that they're standing up for them against this kind of pressure. I really want to see this site survive.

I don't have any erotica of my own to post, alas (maybe I'll try that sometime - non-Turtle related!), but in the spirit of things, a recommendation: Jess Fink's Chester 5000 XYV is some beautifully drawn comic steampunk robot porn. (That link is VERY NSFW!) Enjoy.

Turtle Soup: Moonlight Densetsu

(Moonlight Destiny, for those of you who never had that phase.)

henshin yo?

This strip was also originally published as a guest strip for The Littlest Elle. I met [livejournal.com profile] sae because of the whole Sailormoon thing. ;)

Turtle Soup: Indie Comics

One more today, I think.

funny cuz it's true

I originally gave this strip to my friend [livejournal.com profile] sae to use as a guest strip for her webcomic, The Littlest Elle. [livejournal.com profile] sae is one of my oldest and closest artist friends (and awesome just in general); her strip is equal parts adorable and wry, and I recommend it!

Turtle Soup: Heroine

eat your heart out, Bella - oh wait, Edward already did

As I said to A.L.: "ten years, and I still can't draw David Bowie."

In spite of being rather lower in technical quality than a lot of my other strips (in my opinion), this is far and away the most popular thing I have ever posted to an online gallery site (deviantART, in this case). I hope it's because many of the people who "faved" it actually got what I was saying? (Far too many of them were clearly just "Team Jareth," but oh well.)

Turtle Soup: In-Joke Nostalgia

fangirls much?

I drew this strip as a gift for my best friend; it recalls a history of pop culture-based in-jokes (but they're often related to fairly obscure pieces of pop culture). It's pretty incomprehensible to most people who aren't us, so I won't be including it in the Turtle Soup minicomic . . . but it means a lot to me, and I'm also pretty proud of a lot of the technical stuff in it. :)

In panel order, this strip refers (often vaguely) to: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Farscape, The Sentinel, Due South (seasons 3 & 4), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mr. Darcy Takes A Wife, and "I'm Not Okay" by My Chemical Romance.

Turtle Soup: Father's Day

This comic was my dad's Father's Day card last year. (The last panel/message were interior, with the four-panel strip on the front.)

true story

(Someday I'll learn to draw children.) When I was nine or so, I was really struggling with schoolwork . . . I'd just switched to my third elementary school, where I had "real" grades for the first time (not like at the hippy-run private school I'd just left). My dad had "For Allie" engraved on this pendant from one of his MA programs, and gave it to me like some kind of good luck charm.

And yeah, he really did that thing with the magazine, too. My friends always think he's so serious and reserved . . .

Turtle Soup: Monday

Hmmm. Having given this some thought, I think I'm just going to start posting comics and art here as I go. I'm probably not going to post older art, except for the Turtle Soup diary comics I've been working on for the last year or so.

Last March I decided to try doing a comic a day for a week, as an exercise. (I failed to complete any of the strips within a day, but it was still a great exercise, so I've kept working on it.) Here's the first one of those "daily" strips, though!

probably incomprehensible to non-English Majors

fill the fancy bowl up at the present-tense tureen

Okay, I give up. I really do prefer LJ-format blogs after all . . . and clearly, dreamwidth is the place to be. I like their attitude, even though there are not so many people here yet. (Plus, my username was taken on LJ, so you know.)

Coming soon: art posts and random musings. Etc. Also real icons (I felt naked, but I'm without Photoshop here), and probably a custom header image.

(So yeah, I'm setting this blog up to replace my website! Because I don't like having it anymore, I don't know. I am nuts or something, and will wind up having to host all my art on flickr or photobucket. Well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.)
